·      In 2010, an estimated 64% of Canadians drank coffee each day, equivalent to 6.8 kilograms of green coffee or 12.7 pounds of roasted coffee per capita (IPSOS).

·      Commercial Recycling into soil amendments: no such local products.

·      Informal Recycling in the Kootenays: individual gardens + community gardens compost: research in progress.

·      Coffee grounds recycling businesses: none listed for the Kootenays.

·      Coffee Roasteries Recycling: Starbucks, Tim Hortons, Van Houte and Oso Negro have corporate guidelines and work with local efforts when present.

·      Municipal Recycling: Vancouver + Calgary recycle food waste.
